A lawyer was shot dead outside his home in Amsterdam on 18 September 2019. In the period before the killing he had been acting for the state's witness in the Marengo liquidation trial. Two men were sentenced to thirty years in prison for the murder. A further group was prosecuted for its part in preparing it: the Amsterdam court of appeal found that some of them had carried out reconnaissance around the lawyer's home and office in the run-up to the killing, and that the group supplied the cars used by the gunmen. On 7 September 2026 the court of appeal imposed increased sentences of up to eleven years and three months on six defendants for membership of a criminal organisation, and on five of them also for the attempted murder of another man who was beaten with striking weapons in Utrecht on 30 October 2019 and suffered a basal skull fracture. One of the six absconded and was arrested in Paris on 16 September 2026. His lawyer said he was expected to be surrendered to the Netherlands shortly.

- incident_date corrected from the article date 2026-09-16 to 2019-09-18 and city from 'utrecht' to Amsterdam; slug updated to match, filename left unchanged per the archive convention. The cited report is the arrest in Paris of a man already convicted over the killing, not a fresh incident: NOS states 'De advocaat werd op 18 september 2019 vermoord bij zijn huis in Amsterdam.' Utrecht is the convicted man's home city and also the scene of a separate later assault, not the place of this killing. Two NOS articles added as readable sources after the cited Telegraaf URL returned HTTP 403; the Telegraaf URL is retained. judicial_status raised from alleged to convicted.
