A 14-year-old boy died in January 2022 at the house in Turnhout where he lived with his father, a villa rented on the Kampheidelaan. His body was not found until 25 February 2022, about eight weeks after his death, when police entered the house. They acted after repeated reports from his mother, who had not heard from him for two months. He was found dead in bed in an upstairs room, and his body was in an advanced state of decomposition. Six adults who lived together in the house, three men and three women including the boy's father, were arrested. According to the investigation, they systematically isolated the boy and deliberately gave him no care or food while knowing he was seriously ill. A high dose of ketamine was later found in a sample of his hair. The accused deny having known anything about the drug. The six went on trial for murder before the Antwerp assize court on 11 September 2026. They face life imprisonment if convicted.
