A 24-year-old law student was fatally struck by a stray Kalashnikov bullet on 10 September 2023 while she was revising in her bedroom at home in Marseille. In the three years since, she has become a symbol of the collateral victims of drug trafficking in the city. A minor was placed under investigation over the killing and committed for trial on a charge of assassination by an order of 10 June 2026. His lawyer lodged an appeal against that committal. On 7 October 2026 the criminal division of the Cour de cassation ruled the appeal inadmissible. The committal order is therefore final, and the case can now be listed before a children's court sitting in criminal matters. A judicial source told BFM TV that a trial is expected within the coming months.
