A 38-year-old man, originally from Farranree in Co Cork, was fatally injured at a house at Hollyville, Hollyhill, in Cork city at about 4.30am on 16 November 2025. Emergency services found him seriously injured with stab wounds, and he was taken to Cork University Hospital, where he later died. He had worked on a community employment scheme in the city. Almost eleven months later, a 56-year-old man was arrested at his home and charged with the murder at Gurranabraher garda station. He was brought before Cork District Court on 7 October 2026, where a detective gave evidence that he made no reply when the charge was put to him. There was no application for bail, as bail cannot be granted in the district court on a murder charge; his solicitor said he had instructions to apply to the High Court. He was remanded in custody for a week.
