A 41-year-old man was fatally injured with several stab wounds at about 20:45 on 12 February 2026 on the Hammer Straße in Hamburg-Marienthal. Extensive enquiries by the Hamburg homicide squad and the public prosecutor's office, drawing in particular on witness statements and video recordings, led investigators to a 37-year-old Iraqi national. The Hamburg public prosecutor obtained an international arrest warrant for him. Turkish authorities detained him during a check over a breach of residence rules, and he was deported to Germany at the beginning of October 2026. On arrival he was taken to the Hamburg remand prison on the strength of the existing warrant, and he is now in pre-trial detention on suspicion of the killing.
