A 39-year-old man was shot dead at Patrician Park on Kill Avenue in Dún Laoghaire, County Dublin, on the morning of Sunday 5 July 2026. He was shot in the upper leg and bled to death at the scene. Gardaí said they believed he had gone to the park at about 8.30am for a prearranged meeting, and that he was fatally injured either during a struggle over a handgun or when he was deliberately shot as part of a dispute or a so-called punishment shooting. RTÉ reported it as the first gang-related murder in Ireland in 2026 and the first organised-crime gun killing since 2024. On 10 September 2026 gardaí arrested a man in his 40s in connection with the murder. He was detained at a garda station in Dublin, and the investigation is continuing.
