A young man was shot shortly after 22:00 on 21 July 2026 on the Graafseweg in Nijmegen, just outside the area hosting the Vierdaagsefeesten, while large crowds were in the city. Ambulances and a trauma helicopter were sent to the scene, and the victim — an 18-year-old man from Rotterdam — died in hospital a short time later. Police cordoned off the site for forensic examination and appealed for witnesses. An 18-year-old man from Rotterdam was arrested the following night on suspicion of involvement, but was subsequently released and is no longer treated as a suspect. No one has been charged, and the circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation.
