A man in his 70s was stabbed to death at a detached house in Kløfta, in Akershus, on 30 June 2026. His son was charged with the killing and has admitted stabbing him, but claims he acted in self-defence. On 5 August 2026 the suspect was released from pre-trial custody after the Supreme Court rejected the prosecution's appeal against release, against the wishes of the prosecuting authority. He remains charged and is subject to a visitation ban pending trial. The appeal court had found a very strong probability that the killing was intentional rather than lawful self-defence. A surviving brother of the accused reacted strongly to the release.
