A woman was shot at a house on the New Yorksingel, in the Wateringse Veld district in the south of Den Haag, shortly after 2am on Saturday 8 August 2026. Emergency services found her seriously wounded at the address, where she lived, and she died. A suspect was arrested after police searched another property. An object resembling a weapon was recovered when he was detained, and the car used to flee the scene was seized. He is being held in full restrictions and may have contact only with his lawyer. The victim was reported to have been 34 and visibly pregnant, and her household was known to the domestic-abuse support service. A silent procession was held in her memory on the Thursday evening following her death. Later reporting described the case as a suspected femicide and identified the suspect as the victim's ex-partner. According to that account the couple had separated and the victim had refused to let him into her home.
