A 33-year-old woman was found dead in a third-floor apartment in the Carlton House complex on Lower Cecil Street in Limerick city at about 7.30am on Friday 22 August 2026. Gardaí carried out a welfare check after workmates reported her absence, and discovered her body. The victim was a Brazilian national from Sorocaba in São Paulo state and worked for a local cleaning company. She had been stabbed. Following a post-mortem examination, An Garda Síochána opened a murder investigation; the results of the examination were not released, for operational reasons. The scene was preserved for technical examination. Gardaí said they were following a definite line of inquiry and were seeking to question a man in connection with the killing. No arrest had been made at the time of the cited reports, and a Garda family liaison officer was assigned to the victim's family.
