The body of a 41-year-old man was found on 1 October 2026 in the boot of a BMW parked in the Dadizelestraat in Menen, West Flanders. A local resident alerted police because the black car had stood parked in the street for about a week. The victim, a 41-year-old man originally from Syria, was the owner of the vehicle and had been reported missing. A forensic team from the federal judicial police examined the scene, and the victim was subsequently formally identified. In the course of the investigation a house in the nearby Groenhof district was searched this week, and its two occupants - a 49-year-old woman and a 68-year-old man, both originally from Egypt - were detained. The West Flanders public prosecutor's office confirmed that both were arrested for the murder of the victim and transferred to prison. The investigating chamber was due to decide on their continued detention, in the woman's case on the Friday and in the man's on the Tuesday. The judicial investigation is continuing.
