On 31 January 2026, a national demonstration in Turin against the eviction of the Askatasuna social centre turned into about two hours of violent clashes with police, concentrated around Corso Regina Margherita, where the centre had occupied a building for some thirty years. Officers were attacked with rockets, flares, paper bombs, stones and bottles. A police officer was surrounded by a group of masked demonstrators and beaten, including with a hammer, and a police vehicle was set on fire with an officer inside. On 9 October 2026 the Turin prosecutor's office requested 19 precautionary measures against activists over the clashes. The offences contested include attempted murder in connection with the hammer assault and the burning of the vehicle, alongside aggravated resistance and injury to a public official, criminal damage and robbery. Police carried out 14 house searches in several Italian cities and served notices setting the preventive interrogations. A judge has yet to rule on the requests.
