A 16-year-old boy was shot and seriously wounded on a public street in Villeurbanne, in the Lyon metropolitan area, at around 1am on Saturday 15 August 2026. He was hit in the abdomen and in one calf and was taken to the Édouard Herriot hospital in Lyon, where he was admitted with his life in danger. According to a police source, two people fled the scene after the shooting, and cartridge cases of 7.62 and 7.65 mm calibre were recovered there. A source close to the case said the attackers were travelling on scooters and were armed with a long gun and a handgun, and placed the shooting in the Grandclément quarter. The Lyon public prosecutor's office said an investigation was opened on 15 August for attempted murder by an organised gang, transport and possession of a weapon, and criminal association, and was entrusted to the Rhône organised and specialised crime division. No arrest had been reported in connection with this shooting at the time of the cited report.

A 36-year-old man was arrested in Nicosia at midday on Friday 14 August 2026 over the alleged attempted murder of a 29-year-old woman. Police said he was being investigated over offences including attempted murder, assault causing actual bodily harm and violence against women. The woman went to Nicosia general hospital after being injured, where doctors found bruising, swelling and haematomas on various parts of her body. Two municipal police officers were attacked with a bladed weapon in Toulouse on the evening of Monday 10 August 2026. They were on patrol with a third officer in the city's streets when a man set upon them. One officer was wounded in the arm and the neck, the other in the elbow. Both were taken to the Rangueil teaching hospital and neither was in a life-threatening condition. The Toulouse public prosecutor's office opened an investigation for attempted murder of persons holding public authority, and assigned it to the organised and specialised crime division. The attacker was reported to have made remarks of a terrorist character during the attack. The prosecutor said that such remarks could not in themselves make the act a terrorist offence, though they made it necessary to examine the assailant's motives, and that only the investigation — after an assessment of his personality and record — would determine whether the national anti-terrorism prosecution service took over the case.

Six cyclists were struck by a car shortly before 10:00 on 9 August 2026 near Lanzo Torinese, in the Turin metropolitan area, on the road towards Coassolo. The incident followed a roadside argument described by reporters as being over a trivial matter. After the first impact the driver is reported to have turned the car around and driven at the group a second time. All six cyclists survived. Four were injured with various trauma and fractures: two were airlifted to the CTO hospital and two were taken to the Giovanni Bosco hospital. The driver, a 73-year-old man, presented himself to the carabinieri and was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. The public prosecutor placed him under house arrest.

A 51-year-old monk was arrested on Friday 7 August 2026 in connection with an attempted murder at a monastery in the Paphos district of Cyprus, in which two people were wounded. According to the account given to reporters, a delegation of priests had visited the monastery earlier that day and asked the monk to hand over the keys to his cell and leave the community. Two of those present were then stabbed. A 53-year-old man was wounded in the throat and needed stitches. A 27-year-old priest was wounded in the hand and was treated in the casualty department before being released. Both were taken to hospital and neither died. The monk was taken into custody. Later reporting identified the site as the Saint Neophytos monastery in Tala, Paphos, and gave the trigger as a dispute over the monk occupying two cells, one of which had formerly been his father's. On 14 August 2026 the case was referred to the Paphos criminal court, with a trial date set for 7 October. The monk stands accused of attempted murder, transportation of an offensive instrument and stabbing. His defence argued that the chances of conviction were "almost non-existent" and that he posed no flight risk, while the prosecuting authority asked for him to remain in custody; a decision on continued detention was due on 18 August.

A man in his 20s was shot in the face during a break-in at a house in the Dunlo area of Ballinasloe, Co Galway, at about 3:15am on Monday 3 August 2026. Gardaí believe he was asleep in bed when the house was targeted by a gunman who forced his way in. He survived and was treated at University Hospital Galway for injuries described as non-life-threatening. Gardaí appealed for camera and dash-cam footage from the Cúlán Eiscir Riada area between 2:30am and 4:00am. On 5 August 2026 a man in his 20s was arrested in connection with the shooting and detained at a station in the Garda North Western Region under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007. No charge has been announced, and investigations are ongoing.

A 50-year-old woman was stabbed in the early morning of 28 July 2026 in the Vingerlingstraat, in the Schipperskwartier district of Antwerp. Police were called shortly after 06:30 after she was found lying in the street with stab wounds. She was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition; her condition later stabilised and she is no longer in danger. The suspect fled before police arrived. Officers set up a perimeter and searched the surrounding area without finding any trace of the attacker, and the federal forensic laboratory was called in to examine traces at the scene while investigators reviewed camera footage. Later the same day local detectives arrested an 18-year-old man at his home. On 29 July 2026 the Antwerp public prosecutor's office confirmed that, after questioning, the suspect was brought before an investigating judge who remanded him in custody on suspicion of attempted murder. Police said the context and circumstances of the attack were not yet clear. On 3 August 2026 the Antwerp pre-trial chamber ruled that he remains in custody. He denies any involvement in the stabbing; his lawyer says he is cooperating with the investigation.

Three women were wounded with kitchen knives on the morning of Monday 27 July 2026 at the Porte de Clichy tram stop, in the 17th arrondissement of Paris. The attack took place at about 11:30. The victims were aged 19, 24 and 36. Two of them were struck in the lower back and in the abdomen and were initially in a serious condition, but their lives were not in danger; the woman wounded in the abdomen was eight months pregnant. The third was wounded in the shoulder. A 31-year-old man armed with two kitchen knives was arrested at the scene at 11:35 by an off-duty police officer. He was taken into custody on suspicion of attempted murder. He was known to psychiatric services, and the following day his police custody was lifted on psychiatric grounds and he was taken to the psychiatric infirmary of the Paris police prefecture. No charge has been reported.

A 53-year-old man was shot and wounded at around midnight on 17 July 2026 in via di Valle Aurelia, a district in the west of Rome. He was hit in the leg and was taken by ambulance crews to the emergency department of the Gemelli teaching hospital. He survived the shooting. Carabinieri from the Rome Madonna del Riposo station and the operational unit of the Rome San Pietro company began investigating at the scene, and forensic examinations were carried out by the Rome investigative unit. Witness statements, mobile phone cell-site tracking and analysis of area CCTV, which allowed a car used by the suspects to be located, led investigators to two Roman residents. On 1 August 2026 a 26-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman, both with previous convictions, were detained on suspicion of attempted homicide in connection with the shooting. They were taken to the Regina Coeli and Rebibbia Femminile prisons on the order of the judicial authority, and the detentions were subsequently validated by the court. No trial stage has been reached.

An off-duty local police officer in Gijón, Asturias, narrowly avoided a crash on 22 June 2026 after the front brake of his private motorcycle failed as he rode away from where he had parked it, in the La Arena district. He needed his riding skill to avoid an accident. Mechanics who examined the machine found that the front brake's hydraulic circuit had been deliberately tampered with by draining the brake fluid, and ruled out an accidental fault. Investigators from the local judicial police brigade used witness statements and CCTV footage to place a 68-year-old man at the scene and attribute the sabotage to him. He had known the victim previously through the officer's professional work and involvement in various police and administrative actions. The suspect was arrested on suspicion of attempted homicide and brought before the duty court, which released him with charges and barred him from approaching or contacting the victim.

She was attacked by one or more people and suffered extremely violent blows, particularly to the face, causing injuries that have left her unfit for work. She survived. The Liège public prosecutor's office opened a judicial investigation qualified as attempted murder and appointed a forensic doctor to assess the injuries. No suspect has been identified and all lines of inquiry remain open. Investigators have so far been unable to establish any connection between the attack and the victim's professional work on the corruption case, and the federal prosecutor's office that leads that case has confirmed it has not opened a file in connection with these facts.

A man in an electric wheelchair was set on fire on the afternoon of Tuesday 14 April 2026, at about 15:30, outside the shopping centre on the Smaragdplein in Utrecht. Bystanders pulled him from the burning chair and laid him on the ground, and emergency services took him to hospital and later to a specialist burns centre. He suffered third-degree burns to about a fifth of his body and his life was in danger. He has since returned home, but his lawyer says his recovery is uneven and he is in pain around the clock. Two men, aged 55 and 37, were arrested within a day of the attack and are accused of attempted murder, among other offences. At the first public hearing at the court in Utrecht on 28 July 2026 the prosecution said the attack appeared to have been deliberate: one of the men is alleged to have gone into a supermarket, returned with a bottle of methylated spirits and poured it over the victim, and when the first attempt to set him alight faltered the pair are said to have come back to do it more thoroughly. Both men have been referred for psychiatric assessment. The three men were known to each other and investigators have pointed to a conflict between them.

A 30-year-old woman was stabbed repeatedly on Duke Street in Leith, Edinburgh, in November 2025, as she walked to a GP appointment with her young daughter in a pram. Her estranged husband, from whom she had moved away, approached them in the street, told her he had a knife, seized her by the hair and stabbed her about the head and body. Three men who witnessed the attack came to her aid, disarmed him and held him until police arrived. She sustained twelve injuries, including facial scarring and a collapsed lung, and spent four days in hospital. The couple had married abroad about four years before the attack and had moved to London, where their daughter was born. After the relationship broke down the victim and the child moved to Edinburgh, where he tracked them down — which the sentencing judge said indicated a degree of foresight. In August 2026 the man, 26, admitted attempted murder at the High Court in Edinburgh and was jailed for seven and a half years. The judge described a sustained attack on a defenceless victim, said she could have died and that her survival owed to a combination of luck and the intervention of passers-by, and commended those who stepped in. He was also banned from contacting her for life.

The suspect attacked the victim, his ex-partner's adoptive mother, at her home in Geetbets after observing the residence for two days. She sustained more than fifty stab wounds, including at least ten to vital areas, and survived only because of swift medical intervention. A court in Leuven sentenced the suspect to 14 years in prison. After learning of the verdict by text message, he cut off his ankle monitor and fled, but was recaptured the following day by police and the Federal Police's FAST team in his hometown of Aarschot.

He suffered a cut to the heart that caused cardiac arrest, and survived after emergency treatment at St. Olav's hospital. Two other people were stabbed in the same incident: one was struck seven times, sustaining superficial wounds, and another was stabbed once in the upper arm. In August 2026 a man in his 40s was indicted for attempted murder over the attack. He denies criminal liability; his defence counsel says he acted in self-defence.
