A 73-year-old man, a well-known criminal defence lawyer, was found dead on the evening of 21 July 2026 in his office in central Athens, on Odos 3is Septemvriou, which he also used as a residence. Relatives who had been unable to reach him during the day went to the building, and the caretaker let them in and found him in the bedroom. Police were alerted shortly after 22:00 and sealed the scene for forensic examination; investigators place the time of death in the morning hours of the same day. He was found naked on the bedroom floor in a foetal position in a pool of blood. No weapon was used: he had sustained a rain of blows to the head from fists and possibly kicks, along with impact against a hard surface. His clothes were laid on chairs and there were no signs of the disturbance or searching that would suggest a robbery motive. Authorities are treating the death as a criminal act, and the homicide division has taken over the preliminary investigation. No suspect has been identified.
