A 73-year-old man, a well-known criminal defence lawyer, was found dead on the evening of 21 July 2026 in his office in central Athens, on Odos 3is Septemvriou, which he also used as a residence. Relatives who had been unable to reach him during the day went to the building, and the caretaker let them in and found him in the bedroom. Police were alerted shortly after 22:00 and sealed the scene for forensic examination; investigators place the time of death in the morning hours of the same day. He was found naked on the bedroom floor in a foetal position in a pool of blood. No weapon was used: he had sustained a rain of blows to the head from fists and possibly kicks, along with impact against a hard surface. His clothes were laid on chairs and there were no signs of the disturbance or searching that would suggest a robbery motive. Authorities are treating the death as a criminal act, and the homicide division has taken over the preliminary investigation. No suspect has been identified.

A 38-year-old British woman was killed in the Kypseli district of Athens in mid-July 2026. She had arrived in Greece on 26 June and initially stayed with friends in the Piraeus area. On 2 July she was given the keys to an apartment in the Exarcheia district by a friend; the suspect also had keys to the same flat. Her last phone contact with someone in her circle of friends was on 15 July, after which investigators believe messages sent from her phone saying she wanted to be left alone were an attempt to mislead. Her remains were later recovered from an abandoned location on Evelpidon Street and identified by fingerprints. Security-camera footage obtained by investigators shows the suspect walking through central Athens carrying a suitcase, which police believe contained her body; officers noted that his manner appeared calm and unremarkable, resembling that of an ordinary traveller. Analysis of mobile-phone data placed her handset in Arachova, where the suspect had travelled. A 26-year-old Afghan man has been charged with homicide, robbery and violation of weapons legislation, and is reported to have confessed.

The victim, a 20-year-old man on the autism spectrum with a certified disability, was shot in the head by two police officers during a car pursuit in Argos in the early hours of 8 July, after abandoning his vehicle and attempting to flee on foot; he died four days later in intensive care. Shell casings recovered at the scene numbered fewer than the shots reportedly visible on video evidence. The two officers were charged and remanded in custody after testifying; both deny intent to kill and describe the shots as warning fire. The shooting prompted protests, including a demonstration planned in Thessaloniki.

A violent altercation broke out between two foreign nationals in an abandoned shop in central Thessaloniki. Police found both men, aged 17 and 37, bloodied with wounds from sharp objects after the fight between them. They were taken by ambulance to a city hospital, where they remain hospitalized under police guard. Both were arrested and charged with attempted homicide against each other; the 17-year-old was also found to lack legal residency documentation.

An incendiary device was placed in the family car outside a home in Thessaloniki. The resulting fire fatally injured the mother of the household and injured her daughter, the father, and two other residents of the building. Following an Antiterrorist Service investigation using security-camera footage, three suspects — two men aged 29 and 24, and a woman aged 26 — were arrested and brought before the prosecutor on charges including intentional homicide.
