Police were called to a flat in the Viksäng district of Västerås at about four in the morning on 8 September 2026. They found two men at the address, one of them dead. The other man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder. The two men were known to each other. A police spokesperson said the incident was believed to be isolated and that no one else was suspected. The scene was cordoned off and relatives were notified. The arrested man, reported to be about 25, was subsequently detained on probable cause of murder, with a remand hearing due to be requested by the prosecutor by Friday 11 September. The dead man is reported to have been in his 60s. Local radio reported that the suspect had confessed; the prosecutor could not confirm this, noting that he had not yet been interviewed about the incident with defence counsel present. Police have carried out a crime-scene examination and a post-mortem is to follow.
