A married couple in their mid-seventies were found dead at their home on the Paseo de los Húsares, in the Latina district of Madrid, in the early hours of 5 October 2026. Neighbours alerted the emergency services at about 04:40. Paramedics found both with heavy blows to the body and could only confirm their deaths. Both bodies showed signs of violence caused by a blunt instrument. The National Police, who have taken charge of the investigation, say the injuries were inflicted with a dumbbell. The couple's son, who is in his mid-thirties, was detained as the presumed perpetrator. According to sources with knowledge of the case he suffers from a serious psychiatric condition, possibly schizophrenia; a full assessment of his mental health was to be carried out, and he was expected to be transferred to the psychiatric unit of a Madrid hospital for treatment while also being brought before a judge.
