A businessman was shot dead in Plovdiv at about 01:00 on 30 September 2026. Police received a report of a man having been shot roughly an hour after midnight and confirmed his death when they reached the scene. He had been shot in the head with a firearm at a property he owned in the city's Западен (Western) district, and according to initial police information the attack came after he returned home from the Botev Plovdiv stadium. The victim was the majority owner of the football club Botev Plovdiv and, since August 2026, chairman of its board of directors; he was also a co-owner of one of the country's largest logistics companies. In 2025 he had undertaken to cover the club's debts of nearly seven million leva and had pursued a long concession of the club's stadium from the municipality. In recent years he had publicly accused local companies and businessmen of exercising control over the police in Plovdiv. Police sealed off the scene and forensic officers carried out examinations there. A special investigative staff was formed, police presence was increased at the main exit routes from Plovdiv and border controls were tightened. Officers were also seen checking municipal refuse lorries travelling towards a depot outside the city, which was assumed to be part of the search for traces connected to the killing. Investigators declined to say at this stage whether any suspect had been identified or whether there were witnesses, and said no line of inquiry was being excluded. The Plovdiv district prosecutor said it was too early to settle on a single version and that all possible evidence was being gathered. The motive had not been established.

A man was found dead by the Skärmarbrink metro station in the south of Stockholm on Tuesday 29 September 2026, and three people were detained on suspicion of murder. Police began a large operation at the station on the Tuesday morning. No details were given at the time about what it concerned, though officers stressed there was no danger to the public, and an area of ground nearby was initially cordoned off for investigation. Late in the afternoon police confirmed that a man had been found dead. A large number of witness interviews were held and camera material from the area was being examined. A minor was seriously injured during an evening of violence in the centre of Arnhem on 29 September 2026, and one of the people arrested afterwards is suspected of attempted manslaughter. Police were called to a fight at Arnhem Centraal station at about 21:30. A group of roughly fifteen young people was involved; when officers arrived the group scattered, and further incidents then broke out at several locations in the surrounding city centre, among them the Korenmarkt and the Willemsplein. Three people were injured. One of them, a minor, was seriously hurt. Police said a stabbing had probably also taken place. A bystander account described a victim with wounds to the chest and shoulder, with others stemming the bleeding with a T-shirt. Eight people aged between 17 and 20, from various places in the Netherlands, were arrested, three of them at the central station. One of the eight is suspected of attempted manslaughter. The two other injured people were themselves designated as suspects. Police said they were still investigating what had happened and what the involvement of each suspect was, and appealed for witnesses to the fight to come forward. No charge decision had been announced.

An 85-year-old woman was strangled in her sleep at her home on via Nicotera in Pellezzano, in the province of Salerno, during the night of 28 September 2026. According to an initial reconstruction by investigators, she was killed in the house she shared with her 53-year-old son. The son called the emergency number himself and reported what he had done. Carabinieri traced and identified him as he wandered on foot through the streets of Pellezzano, and he was detained. Investigators attributed the killing to long-standing family disputes. The municipal administration said it had immediately activated the town's social services to provide support and assistance to those involved.

A 33-year-old woman was killed with a bladed weapon at a dwelling on calle Joan Fuster Zaragoza in Benidorm, Alicante, in an incident reported on 28 September 2026. According to 20 Minutos the killing took place over the preceding weekend, and police were investigating it as a suspected case of gender-based violence. The Policía Nacional arrested three men, aged 30, 40 and 45: one as the alleged perpetrator, who is reported to have been the victim's partner, and two others over their part in disposing of the remains. Investigators said the body was dismembered and moved in suitcases to scrubland between Benidorm and the neighbouring municipality of Finestrat, where it was set alight; fire crews attended the resulting blaze, which caused only minor damage to surrounding vegetation. The two alleged accessories went to the police station themselves and reported that a man they knew had told them he had killed his partner during an argument at his home and had then threatened them into helping him move the body. One is said to have provided a vehicle and the other to have helped carry it. Officers located the body, established a cordon around the suspect's home and arrested him a short time later. Police said formal identification of the body was still outstanding. The victim had made no previous complaints of domestic violence against her partner.

Three people were injured in an attack at a service station on via Martiri di Cervarolo, in the Buco del Signore district of Reggio Emilia, on the evening of Sunday 27 September 2026. All three were taken urgently to the Arcispedale Santa Maria Nuova and none was in a life-threatening condition; the local health authority described their injuries as orthopaedic trauma. According to the health authority, a 66-year-old woman was attacked first, with a screwdriver, and was due to undergo surgery. Two people who came to her aid were also injured: a 49-year-old man, operated on overnight and admitted to a general ward, and a 24-year-old woman, who was expected to be discharged the same day. The suspect, a 26-year-old man, was arrested an hour after the attack and held in custody pending a validation hearing. He is to answer for aggravated attempted homicide. Police, coordinated by the public prosecutor's office, were examining his reported drug dependency; the health authority said he had recently begun treatment at the Reggio Emilia mental health centre, and he had a previous complaint against him from April for threats and criminal damage.

A man was shot dead shortly after 15:00 on the afternoon of Friday 25 September 2026 on a crowded restaurant terrace on the NDSM quay in Amsterdam-Noord. Many people were on the terrace at the time. A witness eating in the restaurant with his wife described hearing two loud bangs, people running into the building, and then learning that they had been shots. The couple hid under a table before leaving with everyone else. Other customers told a city newspaper that an argument over a loose dog had preceded the shooting. Footage published shortly after the killing appears to show the suspect throwing the firearm used moments earlier into the water, and shouting in the direction of the terrace. A suspect is in custody. He is held under restrictions and may have contact only with his lawyer, and police have released no further information about him. No charge has been reported.

A Tunisian man died on 25 September 2026 after being stabbed at the height of an argument during the preceding night in the Golosine district of Verona. Ambulance crews took him in a very serious condition to the Borgo Trento hospital, where he died shortly afterwards of the severity of his injuries. On a first reconstruction, reported in conditional terms, the victim is said to have been involved in a dispute with a group of Polish nationals described as drivers of the golf carts that carry tourists around the city centre. The suspected killer was detained and was being held at police headquarters in Verona. No charge had been confirmed at the time of reporting.

A 29-year-old police officer was shot in the head and killed during a police operation at Kraśnik Górny, near Bolesławiec in Lower Silesia, on Thursday 24 September 2026. Officers from the district police headquarters in Bolesławiec were carrying out operational activities against a person suspected of thefts. At about 11:00 a shooting broke out on the grounds of one of the properties. According to the regional prosecutor's office in Jelenia Góra, a 33-year-old man who returned home while the police operation was under way fired twice in the direction of the officers. One of the bullets struck the 29-year-old officer in the head. An air ambulance was called immediately and flew him to hospital, where doctors fought for many hours to save his life. He did not survive. The death was reported on 25 September. The man who fired was detained at the scene by the remaining officers and was not injured.

A priest was killed and four other people were injured in a knife attack at the convent of the Benedictine Sisters in Jarosław, in Podkarpackie voivodeship, before midday on Thursday 24 September 2026. On the investigators' account, the suspect entered the convent kitchen, took a knife and attacked five people — four men and a woman. The priest, who had tried to stop the attacker, died. Two of the injured remain in a serious condition in hospital in Jarosław, and their condition had not worsened as of the Friday. The injured woman is being treated in hospital in Przeworsk. On 26 September a court granted the district prosecutor's application and imposed three months' pre-trial detention on the suspect, a 31-year-old Ukrainian citizen, running until 23 December 2026. The court specified that the detention should be served in hospital conditions. The suspect was not brought to the hearing because of his state of health, and is to be placed in a medical facility with a reinforced security wing; the prosecution has not disclosed which.

The dismembered body of a 39-year-old man was found on the evening of Thursday 24 September 2026 in an apartment in via Gulli, in the Borgo Vittoria district of Turin. He was from Chivasso, in the province of Turin. According to the prosecution's account he was killed by blows from a club and by stab wounds. The investigation began with a call to the emergency number from the mother of a 26-year-old man, who told police in distress that her son had confessed to having badly hurt someone. On the direction of the Turin public prosecutor's office, police placed three people under a holding order. A man is suspected of homicide and of concealment of a corpse. Two women, one of them the tenant of the apartment where the body was found, are suspected of aiding an offender and of joint participation in the concealment of the corpse. The tenant, a 47-year-old teacher, had not appeared at the school where she worked since the start of the academic year, and colleagues had been asking for weeks where she was. Investigators are still working to establish whether the victim was killed in the apartment or brought there already dead. One line of inquiry concerns a drug debt. The prosecutor's office said it would put its requests on the validation of the holding order and on the detention of those held to the judge for preliminary investigations, and the validation hearing was set for the afternoon of 26 September 2026.

A 36-year-old woman was fatally injured in a knife attack at around 12:25 on Wednesday 23 September 2026 in a municipal accommodation facility on the Grimpingstraße in Coesfeld, North Rhine-Westphalia. Witnesses found her with stab wounds to the upper body at her home address. She died at the scene despite immediate resuscitation attempts. Reporting describes her as a mother of three. Police arrested a suspect: on first findings, the victim's 43-year-old estranged husband, a Turkish national. He was detained shortly before midnight in the Achtermannstraße in Münster after a tip-off from a witness. He has so far not responded to the allegations, and the investigation into a motive is at an early stage. Münster police have taken over the investigation and set up a homicide commission. A 60-year-old man died in a fire in the ground-floor bedroom of a house on the Hoogleedsesteenweg in Roeselare in the early hours of 23 September 2026. The fire broke out at around 00:30 and burned fiercely around the bed; he was found dead in it. His partner was seen at a window in panic when firefighters arrived. They broke the window to bring her out, and she was taken to hospital after inhaling smoke. The rest of the house was undamaged, and a stretch of the road was closed to traffic for a long period while the scene was cordoned off. A support team was called out for the firefighters, who were badly affected by what they found. An investigating judge and court-appointed fire experts were seized to establish the circumstances. Accelerants were found at the scene, pointing to arson. On 24 September the investigating judge in Kortrijk placed the victim's 61-year-old wife under arrest warrant on suspicion of murder, the prosecutor's office for West Flanders reported; the victim is reported to have been doused in petrol.

A 21-year-old man from Roermond was shot dead on the evening of Sunday 20 September 2026 in a residential district of the town. Several residents called the emergency number at around 21:50 after hearing a number of shots on the Terbaansweg. A trauma helicopter was among the services called out. The victim was given resuscitation at the scene but died there. Part of the street was cordoned off, and many residents gathered outside afterwards. A police forensic team examined the scene. Officers collected footage from security and doorbell cameras in the neighbourhood and spoke to possible witnesses. In the days that followed no arrest was made and the investigation team appealed for anyone who had seen or heard something to come forward. On Thursday 24 September two men reported themselves to the police and were arrested on suspicion of involvement in the shooting. No charge has yet been reported.

A 31-year-old man was shot dead at about 21:00 on Saturday 19 September 2026 in the Bairro da Serafina, in the Campolide district of Lisbon. A foreign national, he did not survive wounds inflicted to the rear of the thorax and died at the scene. On Wednesday 23 September the Polícia Judiciária detained four people, all members of the same family and all Portuguese nationals: two brothers aged 19 and 25, their 49-year-old mother and their 54-year-old father. The force says they carried out the crime jointly. According to the police, the attack originated in earlier conflicts connected to drug trafficking. The four were to be brought before a judicial authority for a first judicial questioning and the imposition of coercive measures.

He was taken to a hospital in the city by ambulance and was admitted for treatment. The attacker fled the scene. Following a search, officers of the crime prevention and suppression unit of the Thessaloniki crime investigation directorate located and arrested a 16-year-old. Four home-made packages of cannabis with a combined weight of 3.3 grams were found in his possession and seized. A case file was drawn up against the arrested person by the Lefkos Pyrgos crime investigation department for attempted homicide and for offences under the weapons and narcotics laws, and he is to be brought before the competent prosecutor.

At about 11.20pm on Wednesday 16 September 2026, emergency services were called to Lloyd Baker Street in Clerkenwell, in the London Borough of Islington, after reports of a stabbing. They found a 28-year-old man with stab wounds. He was taken to hospital, where he died of his injuries the following day. The Metropolitan Police opened a murder investigation. No arrests had been made at the time of reporting and detectives appealed for information, noting that the victim was found in a residential street and that members of the public might hold material evidence. The victim's next of kin were informed and were being supported by specialist officers. Police were given enhanced stop-and-search powers covering an area stretching from Caledonian Road through Clerkenwell to Hoxton, in force from the Friday afternoon until the following morning. A man was stabbed outside the Cucine Popolari, a long-established soup kitchen in Padua, on the afternoon of Tuesday 15 September 2026. He was found by officers with knife wounds to his left flank, hands and arms, and was taken by ambulance to the Ospedale Civile, where he underwent emergency surgery. Investigators described one very deep wound to the left flank as potentially damaging to vital organs, with more serious consequences avoided only by chance. Officers sealed off the nearby Giardini dell'Arena, where one of the suspects had fled and was trying to hide among the people there wearing a dark sweatshirt and sunglasses. A 25-year-old Egyptian asylum seeker was stopped, taken to police headquarters for identification, then arrested for attempted homicide and taken to the Padua prison. Investigators found the attack was not an isolated event but part of a series of threats and earlier episodes of violence. That evening officers traced a second Egyptian man, aged 27, identified as having taken part in the assault. He was found with three grams of hashish and was reported to the authorities. The Questore of Padua ordered his transfer to a detention centre in Milan and began proceedings to revoke the arrested man's residence permit.

A man in his 60s was found seriously injured in Birkelundsbakken, in the Årstad district of Bergen, shortly after 01:00 on the night to Monday 14 September 2026. A passer-by found him with injuries consistent with violence and with clothes smelling of petrol. He was admitted to hospital; his condition was not made public. A man in his 20s was arrested later that day and provisionally charged by police with attempted murder. A 40-year-old inmate was stabbed to death at about 15:00 on Monday 14 September 2026 in a corridor of the Forensic Therapeutic Centre (FTZ) Garsten, a secure institution for mentally ill offenders in Upper Austria. The attack was recorded by a surveillance camera. Prison officers who heard screams arrived within moments and attempted resuscitation, but he died of several stab wounds to the chest. A 63-year-old fellow inmate is suspected of the killing and has confessed. The Steyr public prosecutor's office confirmed that the weapon was a butter knife and is investigating on suspicion of murder, naming frustration at not feeling heard by the authorities as a possible motive. It was the second killing of a prisoner in an Austrian justice facility within two weeks. The Ombudsman Board and a commission set up by the Ministry of Justice had already reported systemic failings and severe staff shortages in the forensic detention system; according to the Ombudsman Board, no specialist psychiatric staff are present at FTZ Garsten at night or from Friday to Sunday.
